SUMMER LAYERING FOR BEGINNERS
SUMMER LAYERING – CAREFUL NOW
Summer layering isn’t just for Inspector Gadget, the local streaker and the bake-your-face contouraholics you systematically follow/unfollow on Snapchat/Instagram/YouTube. There’s a casual approach to layering your summer outfit without looking like Forty Coats. I promise if you follow these simple tips you won’t end up like Ross Gellar in those leather (pleather?) pants – oh, remember the PEELAGE?! Summer layering is easy peasy. Unlike winter layering, all you need is a simple statement tee under a slip dress or spaghetti strap/camisole/crop top and voila – you’re no longer basic bitch 2.0.
SUMMER LAYERING – CROP IT LIKE IT’S HOT
We all love the crop top trend, don’t we? Our inner Rihanna/Geri/Ariana/Gwen is just dying to burst through and get the midriff out into the daylight. However, crop tops are not conducive to aging/sitting/anything that involves movement, so wear it over your tee or a tailored shirt and you’re instantly sporting the trend without looking like you’re an extra on the Flintstones.
SUMMER LAYERING – PILE ON THE ACCESSORIES
You don’t have to be in a Sudanese tribe to layer on the neck apparel. It’s totally kosher to drape the bling like you’re Eddie Murphy in Coming to America. Mango has the most amazing accessories right now and they’re selling lots of them in packs of two – like this set of Two chokers that I’m wearing- OBSESSED. Layering your necklaces looks amazing – I love wearing a tie choker with a longer chain and there is no maximum amount of rings and earrings that looks too many IMO.
SUMMER LAYERING – MIX HI/LO DRESSING
We can all do pared back, minimal chic. A black tuxedo blazer with a white vest and sleek trousers or distressed denim with a cute Bella Freud logo sweater and Cons or Stan Smiths – great! But inject some personality into your outfit – especially if you work in a creative industry that’s less formal – and mix casual with dressy pieces. Ripped jeans with an off-the-shoulder decontructed shirt looks equally as good with sneakers or some platform sandals.
Layering isn’t just for summer. It’s for LIFE, LADS.
